• What Is Lycopene ?
Lycopene is a natural carotenoid, mainly found in fruits and vegetables such as tomatoes. Its chemical structure contains 11 conjugated double bonds and 2 non-conjugated double bonds, and has strong antioxidant activity.
Lycopene can protect sperm from ROS, thereby improving sperm motility, inhibiting prostate hyperplasia, prostate cancer cell carcinogenesis, reducing the incidence of fatty liver, atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease, improving human immunity, and reducing skin damage caused by ultraviolet light.
The human body cannot synthesize lycopene by itself, and can only be ingested through food. After absorption, it is mainly stored in the liver. It can be seen in plasma, seminal vesicles, prostate and other tissues.
• What Are The Benefits Of Lycopene For Male Pregnancy Preparation?
After RAGE activation, it can induce cell reactions and lead to the production of ROS, thereby affecting sperm activity. As a strong antioxidant, lycopene can quench singlet oxygen, remove ROS, and prevent sperm lipoproteins and DNA from being oxidized. Studies have shown that lycopene can reduce the level of receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) in human semen, thereby improving sperm motility.
Lycopene content is high in the testicles of healthy men, but lower in infertile men. Clinical studies have found that lycopene can improve the quality of male sperm. Infertile men aged 23 to 45 were asked to take lycopene orally twice a day. Six months later, their sperm concentration, activity and shape were checked again. Three-quarters of the men had significantly improved sperm motility and morphology, and sperm concentration was significantly improved.
• What Are The Benefits Of Lycopene For Male Prostate ?
1. Prostatic Hyperplasia
Prostatic hyperplasia is a common disease in men, and in recent years, the incidence rate has been declining sharply. Lower urinary tract symptoms (urinary urgency/frequent urination/incomplete urination) are the main clinical manifestations, which seriously affect the quality of life of patients.
Lycopene can inhibit the proliferation of prostate epithelial cells, promote apoptosis in prostate tissue, stimulate intercellular gap junction communication to prevent cell division, and effectively reduce the levels of inflammatory factors such as interleukin IL-1, IL-6, IL-8 and tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α) to exert anti-inflammatory effects.
Clinical trials have found that lycopene can improve prostate hyperplasia and bladder smooth muscle fiber structure in obese people and relieve male lower urinary tract symptoms. Lycopene has a good therapeutic and improvement effect on male lower urinary tract symptoms caused by prostate hypertrophy and hyperplasia, which is related to the strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of lycopene.
2. Prostate Cancer
There are many medical literatures supporting that lycopene in daily diet plays a key role in preventing prostate cancer, and the intake of lycopene is negatively correlated with the risk of prostate cancer. Its mechanism is believed to be related to affecting the expression of tumor-related genes and proteins, inhibiting cancer cell proliferation and adhesion, and enhancing intercellular communication.
Experiment on the effect of lycopene on the survival rate of human prostate cancer cells: In clinical medical experiments, lycopene was used to treat human prostate cancer cell lines DU-145 and LNCaP.
The results showed that lycopene had a significant inhibitory effect on the proliferation of DU-145 cells, and the inhibitory effect was seen at 8μmol/L. The inhibitory effect of lycopene on it was positively correlated with the dose, and the maximum inhibition rate could reach 78%. At the same time, it can significantly inhibit the proliferation of LNCaP, and there is an obvious dose-effect relationship. The maximum inhibition rate at the level of 40μmol/L can reach 90%.
The results show that lycopene can inhibit the proliferation of prostate cells and reduce the risk of prostate cancer cells becoming cancerous.
