Product Description

Sesamin, a lignin-like compound, is a natural antioxidant, Sesamum indicum DC. The main active ingredient of the seed or seed oil; In addition to sesame in the sesame family, but also isolated from a variety of plants to sesamin, such as: in addition to aristolochia asarum plant in the north Asarum, rutaceae Zanthoxylum plant, Bashan Zanthoxylum, Chinese medicine south cuscuta, camphor and other Chinese herbs have also been found to contain sesamin. Although these plants all contain sesamin, their content is less than that of sesame seeds of the flax family. Sesame seeds contain about 0.5% ~ 1.0% lignans, the most important of which is sesamin, accounting for about 50% of the total lignans.

Sesamin is white crystalline solid, one of the lignans (also called lignans), which is a fat-soluble phenol organic matter. Natural sesamin is right-handed, soluble in chloroform, benzene, acetic acid, acetone, slightly soluble in ether, petroleum ether. Sesamin is a fat-soluble substance, soluble in various oils and fats. Under acidic conditions, sesamin is easily hydrolyzed and transformed into turpentine phenol, which has strong antioxidant activity

Function

After domestic and foreign scholars have studied sesamin, it has been found that the main physiological activities of sesamin are as follows:

1. Antioxidant effect:
Sesamin can remove excessive peroxide, hydroxyl free radicals, organic free radicals in the body, the production and elimination of oxygen free radicals in the human body is in a relative balance, if this balance is broken, many diseases will follow. It was found that sesamin can improve the activity of free radical scavenging enzyme, inhibit oxidative stress reaction, reduce the generation of oxygen free radicals, and play a protective role in target organs. In vitro antioxidant experiments, it was found that sesamin showed good antioxidant ability to DPPH free radicals, hydroxyl free radicals, superoxide anion free radicals and ABTS free radicals, which was similar to the antioxidant activity of common antioxidant VC, and was a good antioxidant.

2. Anti-inflammatory effect:
Inflammation is defined as a series of defensive responses of body tissues with a vascular system to injury factors. Inflammation can affect cell proliferation, metabolism and other physiological activities, resulting in pathological changes in human tissues. Inflammation also often causes abnormalities in the number and function of osteoclasts, resulting in excessive bone resorption leading to many inflammatory osteolysis diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, infectious osteolysis, aseptic loosening of joint prostheses, and periodontitis. Studies have shown that sesamine can inhibit osteoclast differentiation and bone resorption, reduce the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines, inhibit osteoclast differentiation, and alleviate LPS-induced osteolysis. The specific mechanism may be sesamine inhibits osteoclast differentiation and specific gene expression by inhibiting ERK and NF-κB signaling pathways. Therefore, sesamin may be a potential drug for the treatment of inflammatory osteolysis.

3.The effect of lowering cholesterol
The increase of serum triglyceride and cholesterol is an important factor in inducing atherosclerosis and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. The effects of sesamin on blood lipids, blood glucose and vascular remodeling in rats fed with high fat and high sugar were studied. The mechanism of sesamin was related to increasing lipase activity, increasing fat metabolism and reducing fat deposition. In the clinical trial of sesamine applied to hypercholesterolemic population, it was found that the serum total cholesterol of the group taking sesamine was reduced by 8.5% on average, the content of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) was decreased by 14% on average, and the high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) was increased by 4% on average, which was close to the effect of antilipidemic drugs and safe without side effects.

4. Protect the liver
Sesamin metabolism is mainly carried out in the liver. Sesamin can regulate the activity of alcohol and fat metabolism enzymes, promote ethanol metabolism, promote fatty acid β oxidation, and reduce the liver damage caused by ethanol and the accumulation of fat in the liver.

5. Antihypertensive effect
Sesamin can increase the concentration of NO in human venous endothelial cells and inhibit the concentration of ET-1 in endothelial cells, thus playing a role in inhibiting and regulating the rise of blood pressure. In addition, sesamin can significantly improve the hemodynamics of renal hypertensive rats, and its mechanism may be related to the anti-oxidation and the increase of myocardial NO and the decrease of ET-1.

Application

Sesamin is widely used in the food industry, health products, cosmetics and pharmaceutical fields:

1.Food industry
Sesamin has the characteristics of high protein, low calorie and easy digestion, which meets the needs of modern people for healthy food. At present, sesamin is widely used in snack food, nutrition meal replacement, nutrition health products and other fields.

2.Feed industry
Sesamin, as a high-quality vegetable protein, can be used to replace part of animal protein in animal feed, reduce production costs and improve feed nutrition. With the development of the breeding industry, the demand for sesamin in the feed industry is also increasing year by year.

3.Cosmetics industry
Sesamin has the effect of moisturizing and nourishing the skin, and can be used in skin care products such as creams, lotions and serums. Market research shows that in recent years, the sales of sesamin cosmetics have grown rapidly, especially the increased demand for organic and natural skin care products, which will promote the application of sesamin in the cosmetics industry to further expand.

4.Pharmaceutical industry
Sesamin has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and other effects, and can be used in the formulation of drugs. At present, sesamin has been used to treat liver diseases, cardiovascular diseases, nervous system diseases, etc. With the increasing demand for natural medicines, sesamin has broad application prospects in the pharmaceutical industry.
